REL’s tank program has achieved a significant milestone. REL recently deployed casting technology developed from their field addition research to achieve 8100 psi burst pressure in the casting of larger-scale conformable natural gas storage tanks!
Conventional casting techniques aren’t sufficient to produce the complex integrated structures shown in the tank pictured below. REL has developed patent pending casting techniques to reduce both porosity and grain size in cast material to achieve the higher material properties required to satisfy the demands of a high pressure storage container.
REL will present this research at their Annual ARPA-E MOVE meeting and NGV Conference & Expo in Denver next week.
